Privacy Policy of the Immigration Expert Perdomo Dorsett Law Firm Explaining Data Use to Clients

At Perdomo Dorsett Immigration Law ("the Firm," "we," "us"), we value your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, protect, and delete your personal data when you visit our website, use our client portal (COMPASS), or use our services.

1. Information We Collect

We may collect the following types of information when you interact with our website, our client portal, or our services:

  • Personal Information: Name, email address, phone number, postal address, date of birth, country of origin, and any other information you choose to provide through contact forms, consultations, or inquiries.
  • Immigration Case Information: Information needed to provide legal services, which may include immigration history, family information, financial information, and — when relevant to your case — medical information.
  • Communications: Records of your communications with us, including emails, text messages (SMS), and notes from calls and meetings.
  • Usage Information: Data about how you use our website, including your IP address, browser type, pages viewed, and length of your visit.
  • Transaction Information: Details relating to legal services contracted, including information necessary to process payments.

We do not collect precise geolocation data.

2. How Do We Use Your Information?

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Providing Services: To provide and manage our legal services, respond to your inquiries, check the status of your case with government agencies, and fulfill our professional obligations.
  • Communication: To send you case updates, appointment reminders, document requests, and billing notices — including by text message if you have opted in. See our SMS Terms for details.
  • Improving Our Website: To analyze site usage and improve its functionality.
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws and regulations, and to protect our rights and those of our clients.

3. How Do We Share Your Information?

We do not sell your personal information. No data is sold, for profit or for any other monetary transaction, to anyone.

We share information only in these limited circumstances, and only as needed to serve you:

  • Government Agencies: With U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), immigration courts, and other government agencies as required to handle your immigration case — for example, checking your case status using your receipt number.
  • Service Providers: With vendors who help us operate, such as our website host, secure cloud storage providers (Google), payment processors, and text-messaging providers. These vendors may use your data only to provide their service to us and are required to protect its confidentiality.
  • Legal Requirements: When necessary to comply with laws, regulations, or valid legal requests, or to protect our rights or the rights of others.

If we ever share de-identified or anonymized data (data that cannot identify you), we will do so only for improving our services.

4. Information Security

We take reasonable security measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, or destruction. However, no data transmission or storage system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

5. Data Breach Notification

If a data breach affects your personal information, we will notify you without unreasonable delay. Our notice will describe what happened, what information was involved, and any steps you should take to protect yourself.

6. Data Retention

We keep client records for as long as needed to provide our services and to meet our legal and professional obligations as a law firm, which generally require us to retain closed case files for seven (7) years after a matter ends. Website inquiry information from people who do not become clients is kept for no more than two (2) years. If a client portal account is dormant (unused) for more than two (2) years and the related matters are closed, we will delete or archive the account data under this same schedule.

7. Your Rights: Access, Correction, and Deletion

You may request, at any time:

  • Access to the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction of inaccurate information.
  • Deletion of your personal information.
  • Closure of your client portal account.

We will complete deletion requests within 45 days. Please note that as a law firm, we are required by law and by professional rules to keep certain case records for the retention period described above; where that applies, we will delete everything we are not legally required to keep and tell you what must be retained and for how long.

California residents: If the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) applies to you, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Use the contact information above to exercise them.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you — by email, text message, or a notice in the client portal — with a plain-language summary of what changed, and we will ask for your consent to the updated terms where the changes affect how your information is used. The current version will always be posted on this page with its effective date.

9. Change of Ownership

If the Firm merges with, is acquired by, or transfers its business to another organization, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before that happens. The new organization will be required to honor this Privacy Policy, or you will be given the choice to have your information deleted or returned to you before the transfer.

10. Links to Third-Party Sites

Our website may contain links to third-party websites that are not under our control. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these sites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party website you visit.
